The Velvicks
The Velvicks, like all the best rock and roll stories of the early 21st century, can be traced back to abasement. With influences from Pink Floyd, Queens of The Stone Age, Foo Fighters, The Black Keys, and Radiohead, the band delivers heart-pounding rock that is at once familiar and distinctive. The sounds of the band members individual experiences combined with a shared passion for authentic rock and roll. “Songs are making sense; the band is delivering badass live performances and people are responding to it.” says Vick Nader -
The Velvicks, like all the best rock and roll stories of the early 21st century, can be traced back to abasement, but even further back to a kid in his bedroom with his guitar a bit further away in Brazil. For Vick Nader (guitar, songwriter, and vocals), playing guitar was an escape, but more importantly, a unifying language that connected his lives in 2 very separate places. Vick’s family moved between Brazil and Miami during his childhood. Upon one of his return trips to Brazil, his brother brought home an old nylon guitar which he started to play. Music and his guitar in specific became both a therapy and a social catalyzer introducing him to a universal language through which he was better able to connect with both of his cultures. In 2017 Vick, Vinny (Guitar), and Apoena (Bass) started jamming at ED’s house (Drummer) where they called “Monroe Mansion”, throwing shows and parties in their basement. Following a remarkably Serendipitous encounter with a booking agent at one of these parties and strong support from their Brooklyn music community, the collaborative performances and jamming coalesced into what is now known as The Velvicks. Without any material released they debut live at legendary New York City venue Irving Plaza in Late 2017. “Songs are making sense; the band is delivering badass live performances and people are responding to it.” says Vick Nader –
After over 3 years of bringing their distinctive brand of rock music to venues such as Rough Trade, National Sawdust, Surf Lodge, and Gramercy Theater in New York as well as a West Coast and a Midwest tour under their belts, the band released their debut EP “Run” which is out now. With more performances and touring to follow. Check out their tour dates and come experience them live.
